30 Days of Merlin: Favorite Character - Merlin
I fucking love Merlin.
I’m serious.
He’s not just my favorite character in the show, but top ten favorite fictional characters of all time. He’s beyond complex. How does one go about following your destiny, yet have the power to change it? How does someone go from man servent, to friend, to protector, to greatest advisor, WITHOUT revealing that they’ve known all along what lied ahead. How do do all this without revealing magic? Without admitting YOU’RE the one doing the day saving? That YOU’RE the one who should have the praise and not the clotpole taking it all in?
He resembles a superhero, but technically he’s not. He has no second identity gaining the praise. He’s invisible (except to Gauis). Merlin has freakin’ no life of his own. His life is Arthur (lul) and Camelot. Everything he does is to benefit one or the other, despite his own personal feelings (which get in the way A LOT and will fight for with tooth and nail).
And yet, he’s still capable to smile, laugh and joke around. He’s able to continue seeing hope in places that feel damp and dark. He able to question the impossible. Yes, at times he’s vulnerable and naive, but those moments are for the other cast to shine. Arthur and him are the two sides of the same coin after all.
(Also doesn’t help that Colin Morgan is such an AMAZING actor. That guy…THAT GUY—)
